Prominent Los Angeles estate planning and elder law attorney, Scott P. Schomer, participated in the first ever virtual rendition of one of the nation’s premier estate planning legal conferences from April 22-26, 2020. The American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys virtually hosted their 27th annual Spring Summit, which included attorneys from qualified estate planning law firms from around the country.
In light of the global outbreak of COVID-19, the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys heeded the CDC’s recommendations to avoid large gatherings and transitioned their traditional in-person conference to an online platform. As always, the Academy is committed to providing cutting-edge legal education and practice management tools to transform the way their Member attorneys operate. The 2020 Spring Summit focused on the immediate need for estate planning law firms to change the way they educate and serve their community.
“In order for attorneys around the country to better solve estate planning and elder law issues in this new COVID19 environment, law firm owners need to be able to pivot from the way they used to do business, to an entirely new way of providing service,” said Robert Armstrong, President and co-founder of the American Academy.
Academy CEO and co-founder, Sanford M. Fisch said, “We are pleased to see signs of strength and resiliency within our Membership. Their ability to ensure peace of mind to their clients is essential. For 27 years the Summit has been an opportunity to connect, share, and learn from one another and this event has proven more important in those areas than ever before.”
The founders of the Academy kicked off the Spring Summit with a keynote address offering guidance and inspiration in this constantly changing landscape. Major developments in estate planning and elder law occurred with the passing of the SECURE Act and CARES Act in 2019-2020, and Scott P. Schomer received training on these updates among other crucial information during the sessions: Estate Planning for Retirement Benefits After SECURE, IRA Mistakes and How to Fix Them, Is Any Trust Really Irrevocable Anymore: All About Decanting, Planning Considerations for Next Gen Clients, Planning for Clients Without a Taxable Estate, Solutions to Common Estate Planning Questions and Medicaid Crisis and Pre-Planning Opportunities in the Age of Covid19.
Scott reflected, “The Academy’s Virtual Summit was a game-changer for the way my firm interacts with clients. This event has equipped me with the confidence and the tools I need to adapt to the quickly-changing needs in my community.”
