Communities We Serve – Manhattan Beach

We would like to thank our neighbors in Manhattan Beach for visiting our website.  If you are looking for a licensed estate planning attorney in Los Angeles County, you have found a reliable local resource.

Manhattan Beach, located in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, is one of the three Beach Cities that make up the South Bay.  Here on the Pacific coast south of El Segundo, and north of Hermosa Beach. Manhattan Beach sits a distinct city divided into uniquely different neighborhoods.  Whether you live in the “Sand Section”, “Hill Section”, “Tree Section”, “Gas Lamp Section”, “The Village”, “Manhattan Heights”, “The Knolls,” “Liberty Village”, “Poet’s Section,” or “El Porto”, you know what a wonderful area this is.

Efforts to conserve the beachfront community

In the important conservation effort to preserve the beachfront community of Manhattan Beach, new property developments are not limited to two lot parcels, as of 2010.  This effort came in response to the construction of a 16,000 square foot Oceanside home in 2008, which combined three lots.  Known for its beautiful wise dany beaches, Manhattan Beach attracts more than 3.8 million visitors each year.

The “2011 Best Place for the Rich and Single!”

Manhattan Beach was listed as the number one “Best Place for the Rich and Single” by CNN Money in 2011.  Manhattan Beach has also been nicknamed the “Pearl of the South Bay.”  Popular surf locations can be found on the Pier and El Porto. Lifeguard stations are posted along the entire length of the beach, which is cleaned and groomed daily by the LA County Beaches and Harbors Department.

Enjoying the outdoors in so many ways

Along the Strand, on the eastern edge of the beach, a concrete bike path reserved for bicycles provides an enjoyable route from north to Santa Monica and south to Palos Verdes. Reserved for pedestrians, there is also a separate walkway over two miles long, running alongside the bike path. Other popular activities among residents and visitors include beach volleyball, swimming, body boarding and surfing.

Public parks abound in Manhattan Beach

There are many public parks in Manhattan Beach, the largest and most popular of which is Polliwog Park located on Manhattan Beach Boulevard.  Polliwog Park provides a small lake, open-air concert amphitheater, playground, picnic tables, restrooms, and a fenced dog exercise park.

The park is also home to the Manhattan Beach Historical Society Red Cottage, where you can find the city’s collection of historical artifacts. If you are looking for organized sports, Marine Avenue Park, west of Aviation Boulevard on Marine, has several lighted ball fields, basketball courts, and an indoor racket ball facility.

The Farmers Market in Downtown Manhattan Beach

The Manhattan Beach Farmers Market was brought into downtown 8 years ago. It now provides healthy eating choices from local farms and vendors each week, along with education and cooking tips about healthy eating and protecting the environment.  The Downtown Manhattan Beach Business Association consists of more than 200 businesses offering unique shopping, dining and personal professional services.

Residents in Manhattan Beach need a retirement plan

Clients often have the false impression that social security benefits and a basic 401K are sufficient for retirement. The truth is, it is important to create a real retirement plan so you won’t need to be dependent on government benefits, in order to have a comfortable retirement. Social security may not be a secure as you think. That’s why you need a retirement plan.

Common mistakes in retirement planning

Your golden years are supposed to be relaxing and stress-free.  However, the mere thought of retirement planning can have the anxiety levels climbing.  Some of the major issues in retirement planning are whether you will have enough money to retire comfortably, as well as, when and how to start planning.  Your estate planning attorney can help, but here are some of the most common mistakes you need to avoid:

  • Not accumulating enough savings to have a comfortable retirement
  • Forgetting to update your retirement plan as the years go by
  • Overlooking the potential need for long-term care during retirement
  • Failing to consider the likelihood of higher health care costs in the future
  • Setting and maintaining unreasonable retirement goals

Using IRAs for retirement planning

An IRA is basically a special type of investment account that provides many tax advantages along with a dependable way to save money for retirement. One of the tax benefits is that you are not required to pay taxes on the earnings from the retirement account. Instead, those earnings can be reinvested and compounded so that your account can experience even more growth.  Once you are ready to retire and start taking withdrawals from your IRA, your tax obligation will depend on the type of IRA you have, your present income and the amount of your withdrawals.

If you have questions regarding retirement, or any other estate planning needs, please contact the Schomer Law Group for a consultation, either online or by calling us at (310) 337-7696.

We need to update our Living Trust and attended Schomer Law Group’s seminar. Afterwards we made an appointment and were impressed by the attention Scott Schomer and Liran Aliav gave to our case answering all questions and making suggestions how to minimize the estate tax. All the office staff is very friendly and we highly recommend Schomer Law Group.

We put off getting a trust for years. After attending a seminar with Scott Schomer we realized that the time had come to get a trust. We were given very good reasons for why we should get a trust. No pressure, just the plain facts. We are very relieved and happy to finally get our trust. Scott and Cesar were very knowledgeable, helpful and listened to our ideas of what we had to say. Any questions that we have now and in the future they are available to assist us to solve them. I recommend the Schomer Law Group and I wish we knew about them years ago.

When you’re presented with an invitation to attend in a mailer, you may have reservations, this was a truly gift!! My wife and I were educated and guided through the process of creating a family trust.
Both of our parents had attorney’s that “worked” with wills/trusts, but came up short. Fortunately, the Schomer Law Group was there! This is a group of attorney’s that only specialize in estate planning, law, and financial advice, so you know you’re getting expert and personalized advice. This is the best money we’ve ever spent!! Thank you!

We knew we had to update our 10 year old ( 20 page ) trust. After several detailed meetings, Liran and Cesar produced a large ( 300 pages + ) highly detailed trust document that we have used to make sure our family estate is well managed and clearly understood.
They were all very helpful in answering myriad questions and explaining all the various options…

We would strongly recommend the Schomer Law Group to anyone with an estate of even modest means, to assure proper planning…

We had contemplated updating our will and starting a trust for a number of years. After attending a talk by Scott Schomer we realized we were long overdue and the potential downside of not having our affairs in order was significant. Scott and his excellent team made the process simple and seamless. They were great listeners, addressed all our concerns and even pulled and processed all the paperwork from our financial institutions. If you are looking for assistance with estate planning, wills and trusts, we highly recommend Schomer Law Group.
