Long Beach Elder Resources

The attorneys at The Schomer Law Group are committed to educating their clients, as well as the residents of Long Beach. As such, we provide a comprehensive electronic library of client resources covering numerous estate planning and probate issues.  We also update our legal blog regularly in order to provide updates on the ever-changing laws relating to estate planning, probate and other legal areas we handle.  Finally, our seminars are always a valuable source of information.  Ultimately, it is our desire that Long Beach residents stay informed. Below, you will find several links to useful resources relating to elder law and the senior community.

Protection of Long Beach Elders

Regrettably, nursing home abuse and neglect are realities. Under California law, abuse of an elder is defined as “the abuse of someone who is either 65 years old or older, or a dependent adult that has certain mental or physical disabilities that keep him or her from being able to do normal activities or protect himself or herself.” If you are concerned about this issue, there are resources available in the Los Angeles area for seniors. Here are a few of those resources:

Adult Protective Services County of Los Angeles

State Ombudsman Programs

Alzheimer’s Resources

Alzheimer’s Association Helpline
(800) 272-3900

Alzheimer’s Association Care Consultation

Financial Services For Low-Income Seniors

Paying for Senior Care

The PayingforSeniorcare.com website and the Eldercare Financial Resource Locator Tool were created and are maintained by the American Elder Research Organization. The website is designed to help families and caregivers locate information about long-term care resources for loved ones, and to find public and private programs available to assist in covering the cost of such care.

Serving Our Neighbors in Long Beach

An important part of being Long Beach elder law attorneys is recognizing the myths from the facts when it comes to seniors and the real issues they face.  There are so many myths circulating out there regarding the elderly and their competency in general.  It takes understanding and expertise to be able to recognize the real physical and mental challenges that seniors often face, as opposed to the fallacies that society may perpetuate.  It is also important to recognize the importance of maintaining as much freedom and autonomy for seniors as possible.

The key to providing the best customized legal advice is to work closely with clients and families so that their specific needs and goals can be addressed.  As Long Beach elder law attorneys, we need to become familiar with our client’s health care needs and the family dynamic.  This exceptional insight makes Long Beach elder law attorneys better equipped to handle their client’s legal needs.

Legal issues Long Beach elder law attorneys handle

As with every legal specialty, there are a few common legal issues that are commonly handled by elder law attorneys.  The most common legal matters include Medicaid planning, estate planning and administration, conservatorships, and trust formation and administration.

Some clients believe they can handle certain legal matters on their own, such as drafting a will or power of attorney.  If you are considering substituting the advice of a professional with an online do-it-yourself product, you need to first understand the risks.  Your Long Beach elder law attorneys can tell you that the false sense of security do-it-yourself products provide can be dangerous.

If you have questions regarding estate planning, trust contests, or any other trust administration issues, please contact the Schomer Law Group either online or by calling us in Los Angeles at (310) 337-7696.

We need to update our Living Trust and attended Schomer Law Group’s seminar. We put off getting a trust for years. After attending a seminar with Scott Schomer we realized that the time had come to get a trust. We were given very good reasons for why we should get a trust. No pressure, just the plain facts. We are very relieved and happy to finally get our trust. Scott and Cesar were very knowledgeable, helpful and listened to our ideas of what we had to say. Any questions that we have now and in the future they are available to assist us to solve them. I recommend the Schomer Law Group and I wish we knew about them years ago.

When you’re presented with an invitation to attend in a mailer, you may have reservations, this was a truly gift!! My wife and I were educated and guided through the process of creating a family trust.
Both of our parents had attorney’s that “worked” with wills/trusts, but came up short. Fortunately, the Schomer Law Group was there! This is a group of attorney’s that only specialize in estate planning, law, and financial advice, so you know you’re getting expert and personalized advice. This is the best money we’ve ever spent!! Thank you!

We knew we had to update our 10 year old ( 20 page ) trust. After several detailed meetings, Liran and Cesar produced a large ( 300 pages + ) highly detailed trust document that we have used to make sure our family estate is well managed and clearly understood.
They were all very helpful in answering myriad questions and explaining all the various options…

We would strongly recommend the Schomer Law Group to anyone with an estate of even modest means, to assure proper planning…

We had contemplated updating our will and starting a trust for a number of years. After attending a talk by Scott Schomer we realized we were long overdue and the potential downside of not having our affairs in order was significant. Scott and his excellent team made the process simple and seamless. They were great listeners, addressed all our concerns and even pulled and processed all the paperwork from our financial institutions. If you are looking for assistance with estate planning, wills and trusts, we highly recommend Schomer Law Group.
