We recently shared the amount of the Social Security cost of living adjustment. That was good news because we will see the largest increase that we have seen since 1982. Now, it is time to pass along some bad news with regard to the Medi-Cal Part B premiums.
Medi-Cal Part B Premium Increase
This is the portion of the program that covers treatments that are received from physicians and other health care professionals. The coverage will pick up 80 percent of the costs that are incurred, and you have to pay the rest out of your own pocket.
The deductible per benefit period is $203 for the rest of this year, and it is going to be increased to $233 when the new year starts.
You have to pay a monthly premium for this coverage, and the exact amount will depend on your income level. This year, individual filers that claim $88,000 or less on their taxes have been paying $148.50 per month. The threshold goes up to $91,000 in 2022 and premium will be $170.10.
For those that make more than $91,000 but less than $114,001, the monthly premium will be $238.10 a month. It goes up to $340.20 for people that are in the next bracket that reaches its peak at $142,000.
If you report more than $142,000 and less than $170,001, the premium rises to $442.30. The next level goes from this point up to $500,000, and the premium is $544.40. Individuals that pay taxes on more than half a million pay a premium of $578.30.
This premium will be deducted from your Social Security direct deposit if you are receiving your benefit.
Other 2022 Medi-Cal Out of Pocket Costs
Hospitalization is covered under Medi-Cal Part A, and most people do not have to pay a monthly premium for this coverage. There is a deductible for each benefit period, and it will go from $1484 to $1556 when the calendar rolls over.
There is no coinsurance for hospital stays that do not exceed 60 days in duration. For days 61 through 90, there is a $371 per day coinsurance that will rise to $389 in 2022. The coinsurance for hospital stays that exceed 90 days will be $778 a day in 2022.
Medi-Cal Part D is the prescription drug portion, and the out-of-pocket expenses vary depending on the plan that you choose.
Part C gives you the ability to apply your coverage to obtain a Medi-Cal Advantage plan from a private insurer. The premium and the other terms will depend on the plan that you select, and there are over 3800 plans available.
